!! WE ARE TWO !!
After a pretty insane two years throwing some incredible parties across Manchester and beyond, its quite hard to believe something that was just an idea amongst friends could turn into something so special.
Our first birthday sold out way in advance and with all the earlybirds gone already expect more of the same.
For our 2nd birthday we welcome PREDITAH as our very special headliner. His remixes are huge, his sets never fail to go off and we are really pleased to have landed him for The Mansion.
In support we welcome back all the resident DJs who have played for us over the last two years, selling out shows on every occasion.

Mama Moonshine are an exciting and full of love 4 piece soul, blues and rock band hailing from Manchester and London. They've had a wonderful summer playing festivals and gigs all over the South, but with their gutsy front woman being a true Northerner, they want to come back home and wow the Manchester crowds. Ruth's deliciously deep and soulful tones matched with a personal and effortless performance, make Mama Moonshine a band that can't be missed.'

Suitable for musicians who would like to gain some insight into Indian scales (Raags) and Rhythms (Taals) and for people with a good ear and meditative bend. The initial workshop will be for five hours with a lunch break in the middle. Participants may bring their instruments, but will
be encouraged to focus primarily on singing as all Indian music is first taught by singing.
We will begin with some warm up vocal exercises from the Dhrupad tradition (The oldest form of North Indian Classical Music), Some scale exercises using the Indian notes
(Saregama) and introduce a Raag by a short demonstration.
Begin learning one Raag through understanding basic Alap- (Improvisational intro) which will be memorized.
Exercises in 16 beat to understand the behaviour of this Raag and a simple bandish (song)
Practice of Alap with and without rhythm and a more complex Dhrupad composition.
We will focus on one Raag so that students may gain understanding of the method in which this
music is practiced and taught.
Dhrupad is the oldest form of Indian classical music in the north of India. It was established in the 16th cent. and has been passed on in various family traditions since. Primarily it was practiced in temples as a form of musical meditation. Over the years it has developed into a complex art
form and is the basis of later forms of Indian classical music.
Much like Jazz, Indian classical music involves improvisation within certain frameworks. Raags
are more than just scales. They have specific personalities. They may differ on the way up or down and have specific ways of treating notes or embellishments to create a very distinct mood.
Dhrupad has managed to preserve subtle differences between raags through insisting on Shruti (tiny tone variations, much smaller than semitones) that colour each raag.
Avital Raz was borne in Jerusalem and had an impressive career in Western classical singing
before she relocated to India and devoted herself to the study of Dhrupad for six years under Prof. Ritwik Sanyal of Benares Hindu University. Today she lives in the UK and focuses primarily on using the various traditions she's learnt in creating her own original music. www.avitalraz.com

Antwerp Mansion is a renovation project, aiming to turn a beautiful but run down Victorian Mansion into a Music, Art and Photography Haven.
Over the past several years, we have been attempting to transform the mansion from the falling down death trap it used to be (kinda still is..) to a venue with a difference.
It is not and never was a squat, it costs a bomb to do what we're trying to achieve. The profitable thing to do would be level it and sell the land.. but then that would suck wouldn't it!? If you don't like the fact its rough, you can either help us renovate it or bog off to any of the fancy joints across town.
During the day, with the cracks of light shining through our cracked walls, we run band practices and photo / film shoots. Outside, if you haven't noticed, is our huge graffiti wall - which you are welcome to spray on if you give one of us a shout.
By night, our venue becomes the home for many great parties and gigs.
We're open every THURSDAY FRIDAY & SATURDAY 9PM > 3AM
Check out our listings at www.antwerpmansion.com for what's going on and come get involved!
